Postdoc Position Fungal Endophyte Genomics • U’Ren lab

A postdoctoral position is available in the lab of Jana U’Ren at the University of Arizona to study the ecology and evolution of plant-endophyte symbioses. The project centers on enriching genomic, transcriptomic, and metabolomic knowledge of phylogenetically diverse endophytic fungi in collaboration with the DOE Joint Genome Institute. The start date is flexible, but anticipated to be in Fall/Winter 2018 or when the suitable candidate is identified. The position has an initial appointment for one year with a strong likelihood of extension to a second year pending performance review.

The ideal candidate will be skilled in bioinformatics, molecular biology, and microbiology with a background in plant-microbe interactions, ecology, and evolution. Minimum requirements: a PhD in ecology, evolutionary biology, microbiology, mycology, plant pathology, or a related discipline. Preference will be given to candidates with proficiency in both bioinformatics and molecular biology. Preferred candidates will have excellent communication skills, high motivation, and a strong willingness to work independently and as part of an integrative team. Potential duties include (but are not limited to) comparative genomic and transcriptomic analyses, functional trait assays, and plant inoculation experiments, with potential for the development of independent research projects related to plant-fungal interactions.

As part of the UA Ecosystem Genomics Initiative and the BIO5 Institute, the successful candidate will have extensive opportunities to collaborate across departments at UA, as well as with collaborators at other universities. This collaborative environment is conducive to development of a pathway to independence in academic research. Postdoc: Fungal fusion and chemotropic interactions UC-Berkeley

The Departments of Plant and Microbial Biology and Chemistry/Molecular Cellular and Biology at The University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar – Employee position starting fall 2018/early 2019 on a project entitled “A novel role for polysaccharide monooxygenases in signaling, chemotropic interactions and cell fusion”. This is a collaborative, mission-driven project to define biochemical and functional aspects associated with functions of polysaccharide monooxygenases in the signaling, development and cell biology of filamentous fungi. This project is a collaborative effort between the laboratories of N. Louise Glass (PMB), with expertise in filamentous fungal biology, signaling, cell fusion and genetics and Michael Marletta (MCB/Chemistry), with expertise in structure/functional analyses of polysaccharide monooxygenases. Position Qualifications: A Ph.D. with a strong background in molecular microbiology, biochemistry and genetics (or related discipline) is required. Experience working with fungi, particularly filamentous fungi is a strength. The ability to work in teams, as well as an ability to work independently, is essential.

Salary range is approximately $49,188 to $53,184, depending on qualifications and experience, plus benefits.

Job: Assistant Professor of Mycology, Oregon State University

The Department of Botany and Plant Pathology invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE) 9-month, tenure-track position as Assistant Professor.

The successful candidate will be expected to establish an innovative and competitive research program that pursues scholarly work in the area of fungal biology / mycology. The area of research specialization is open and includes ecology, evolution, genetics and genomics of fungi.. The successful candidate will serve as Curator of the OSU Mycological Herbarium, and will teach Mycology in the Botany and Plant Pathology program and one course in Biological Data Sciences, an undergraduate major currently being developed.

The Department of Botany and Plant Pathology (BPP) focuses on fundamental aspects of plant and fungal biology, and translation of that knowledge to address important societal issues. Research interests encompass plant health, plant function, plant-microbe and -insect interactions, plant and microbial genomics and computational biology, evolutionary biology, and ecology of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. BPP is also the primary research and extension unit within OSU addressing diseases of economically important plants crops in Oregon, and plant diseases of worldwide signifi¬cance. BPP is in the College of Agricultural Sciences, one of Oregon’s principal sources of knowledge relating to food, agricultural, and natural resource systems, and a major source of knowledge regarding environmental quality, natural resources, biodiversity, life sciences, and rural economies and communities worldwide.
